In the lead-up to the NHS Lanarkshire Staff Awards 2026, we are shining a spotlight on the exceptional individuals and teams shortlisted for this year’s awards.
Today, we are celebrating Joy Lilley, Euan McMurtrie and John O’Meara, the volunteers who help NHS Lanarkshire’s musculoskeletal (MSK) Community Appointment Days run smoothly from the moment each patient arrives.
These innovative events bring large numbers of people into a busy sports centre for a holistic assessment experience. For someone who is anxious, in pain or unsure what to expect, the unfamiliar setting can feel overwhelming.
Joy, Euan and John provide the friendly first welcome that helps change the tone of the entire visit.
They greet patients, explain how the day will work, assist with paperwork and guide each person to the first “What Matters to You” zone.
Throughout the day, their organisation helps patients move steadily between stations, enabling clinical teams to remain focused on assessment and care.
Their contribution may appear simple, but it is essential. By reducing anxiety, providing clear information and supporting patient flow, they help create a calm, positive and professional experience from the outset.
Joy, Euan and John have been shortlisted in recognition of the time, warmth and reliability they bring to the service, helping patients feel supported, informed and genuinely welcomed.
The NHS Lanarkshire Staff Awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday 7 October 2026.
