In the lead-up to the NHS Lanarkshire Staff Awards 2026, we are shining a spotlight on the exceptional individuals and teams shortlisted for this year’s awards.
Today, we are celebrating the Neurodevelopmental Service’s Children and Young People School Team, whose multidisciplinary approach is helping children and families access high-quality assessments and support sooner.
The team brings together a team lead, learning disability nurse, occupational therapist, speech and language therapist and clinical associate in applied psychology. Working intensively within schools, they combine their knowledge and expertise to deliver holistic neurodevelopmental assessments while maintaining quality and clinical accuracy.
Since January, the five-person team has completed assessments and reports for 180 children, increasing capacity within the locality model by around 90 per cent.
Their close collaboration is also helping to identify conditions that may previously have been missed, ensuring children and families can access the right support at an earlier stage.
The team’s contribution extends beyond assessment. They have delivered workshops and drop-in sessions for families and school staff on sleep, behaviour, diet and sensory needs, and successfully introduced the model within an additional-support-needs school.
The Neurodevelopmental Service’s Children and Young People School Team has been shortlisted in recognition of its outstanding collaboration, shared learning and commitment to putting collective success before professional boundaries. Together, its members are helping to create a pioneering service shaped around the needs of children, families and schools.
The NHS Lanarkshire Staff Awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday 7 October 2026.
