Weigh to Go Maintenance

Once you have completed your 15 weeks at Weigh to Go, you’ll continue to be supported on your journey to eat healthier and become more physically active at Weigh to Go Maintenance, at selected venues.

This 15-week programme is free to attend for leisure centre members and £2.10 per session for non-members. The classes continue to provide 45 minutes of low impact exercise, but with a shorter session on healthy eating and lifestyle change discussion.

Your progression to Weigh to Go Maintenance allows you to maintain your new, healthier lifestyle. Groups are taken by the same instructors too.

Weigh to Go has helped many Lanarkshire residents live a healthier lifestyle, including Margaret Stewart and Linus Gunn:

Linus Gunn, aged 24, has noticed incredible results since beginning the programme in Summer 2021, with not only weight loss but a new, healthier lifestyle. Linus said: “I went to my GP with concerns about my weight, and she was really helpful and understanding, subsequently referring me to Weigh to Go.

“Due to the pandemic, I joined the online class where I was able to learn about making healthy eating habits and exercise at home. Then as services re-opened I went to the classes at my local leisure centre as well.

“I was really nervous before attending my first class, but the lessons were really relaxed and informative, my instructor couldn’t have been more helpful. I’ve learned so much about how to manage my nutrition, especially understanding food labels and how to exercise.

“Before joining the programme, I was too self-conscious to go to the gym so I had never been, but the gym staff are so helpful and I now have the confidence to go regularly and feel confident to carry out my exercises and use the machines.

“I’m so proud of myself for losing four stone, but I’m also really happy with my new positive lifestyle changes, motivation and wellbeing.”

Linus Gunn, aged 24 from Rutherglen

Huge well done to Margaret Stewart, who managed to reverse her Type 2 diabetes diagnosis through attending our free Weigh to Go programme.

Margaret attended Weigh to Go at her local sports centre, and has lost an amazing two stone since joining the programme.

Margaret’s story: “My high blood sugar levels were raised as Type 2 Diabetes, after discussing my concerns with my GP I was referred to South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture where I was signposted to Weigh to Go.

“My coach, Simon, is a lovely, down to earth chap who welcomed me, made me feel at ease and helped motivate me each week. I enjoy the chats we have as a group and I also feel what I have learned each week has helped me to make lifestyle changes and I feel so much better for it. I have so much more energy and feel happy.

“Reversing my Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis was a combination of increasing my physical activity and making dietary changes, I still go to the classes and also became an Active Age member to continue to receive support to achieve my long-term health and wellbeing goals.”

Margaret Stewart, from East Kilbride

Support for maintaining a healthy weight

There are many contributing factors to maintaining a healthy weight:

Diet & Nutrition

A balanced diet is an important ingredient in maintaining a healthy weight. The types of food that we eat will influence our mood, energy levels and ability to deal with daily tasks.

Mental Health

We know that weight loss can be tough and that the challenge isn’t only physical. Understanding relationships with food, as well as support to deal with emotional triggers are important to achieving healthy weight goals.

Green Health

Getting regular exercise can improve sleep quality, especially exercise that involves natural light. Even a short walk during the day may help improve sleep, there are lots of local Green Health opportunities.

Physical Activity

Being physically active offers a huge variety of benefits to our health, both physically and mentally. Staying healthy and increasing physical activity each day is a great way to help you become and maintain a healthy weight.
