As we continue our focus on the work of the Board of NHS Lanarkshire, here are the key points of a new structure for its governance committees.
- The Population Health Committee is being disestablished, with its responsibilities and priorities now embedded across the Board’s governance structure. This will ensure population health is at the heart of governance discussions, scrutiny and decision-making across NHS Lanarkshire, reinforcing its importance to the organisation’s strategic direction.
- The Performance, Planning and Resource Committee (PPRC) is becoming the Strategy, Planning and Performance Committee (SPPC). This is to help strengthen the scrutiny and assurance around strategy. The committee will be chaired by Board Chair Katharina Kasper and Chief Executive Louise Long will be the executive lead, supported by Ben Hannan, Director of Service Transformation, Planning and Performance.
- Establishment of a Finance and Resource Committee, given the importance of these areas to NHS Lanarkshire. This will be chaired by Scott Haldane, Non-Executive Director, with Fiona McEwan, Director of Finance, as the executive lead.
- The Finance and Resource, Hospital Services and Interface sub-committees are being disestablished, with priority pieces of work being realigned into the standing committees.
- Terms of reference and workplans for all committees will be reviewed to ensure all of NHS Lanarkshire’s priorities are aligned within our governance structure, with no gaps or duplication.
Board Chair Katharina Kasper explained: “We carried out a review of the Board’s committees with the aim of reducing duplication and streamlining information flows and decision making.
“The changes – which were approved by the Board at our meeting in March – build on improvement work already completed and strengthen corporate governance.
“It’s important for stakeholders to hear about these changes and for senior leaders across the organisation to know about them and inform their teams as appropriate”.
