Martin Hill

Biography
Martin Hill is a retired health service senior manager and former trust chief executive, having most recently served as vice-chair of Lothian NHS Board and a member of Edinburgh and West Lothian Integration Joint Boards and, before that, as a non-executive member of NHS 24.

He currently serves as a Board member of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), with particular interest in climate change and environmental sustainability within health.

Martin has wide ranging experience in strategy development, executive coaching, leadership development and change management.

Alastair Boyle MBE

Biography
Alastair Boyle MBE has been involved in protecting the public for all of his career. He joined the Fire and Rescue Service in 1993 and quickly rose through the ranks. Ally held many senior positions across the West of Scotland and prior to the reform of Scottish Fire & Rescue Services he was the Head of Community Safety for Strathclyde Fire & Rescue and a member of the Corporate Management Team.

Ally has a particular expertise in Community Planning and Partnership Working and is passionate about prevention, early intervention and reducing inequalities. He has a strong conviction on the considerable benefits of integrated services and that the best solutions are developed with those most affected.

Ally was diagnosed with a blood cancer in 2008 and, as a result of this diagnosis, he established a partnership between the Fire and Rescue Service and the charity Anthony Nolan. The partnership has volunteers across Scotland who go to secondary schools to educate young people about stem cell, blood and organ donation and recruit them to the stem cell register.

Ally is a Trustee of Blood Cancer UK and a volunteer for Cancer Research UK where he co-chairs a Patient and Public Involvement panel and represents the patient voice on research funding committees.

As a Lanarkshire resident Ally has, for the last 14 years, been treated for his cancer by NHS Lanarkshire and therefore brings that added perspective to the Board.

Biography
Michael Joseph Coyle has been elected to North Lanarkshire Council since 2007. All through his previous working life he has been involved in the trade union movement.
He is married with two daughters.
Micheal’s appointment to the Lanarkshire Health Board is a new challenge in which he hopes to serve the board well.

Councillor Eileen Logan first elected 1980, currently Councillor for Clydesdale West, South Lanarkshire Council.

I have all round experience in all committees of the Council, and I have many outside interests which give me a broad spectrum on life.

I am looking forward to this new chapter in my ever-evolving career.

Brian Moore

Biography
Brian has had a 39 year local authority career with considerable experience of social care and social work services as a practitioner and senior manager.  Brian qualified as a social worker in 1980.

In May 2017 he retired from the position of Chief Officer for Inverclyde Health and Social Care Partnership. Brian’s working career has been spent mainly in the West of Scotland but he has also worked for a period in Liverpool.

His management and leadership roles have provided considerable experience of organisational change, community engagement, service developments and improvement, partnership working and making best use of available resources. Brian has a strong conviction on the benefits to be had from the integration of health and social care and partnership working within the public sector and with its partners in the voluntary and private sectors.

Maureen Lees

Biography

Maureen joined NHS Lanarkshire in 1991 as a part of the dietetic department within Monklands Hospital. In 1995 she was appointed to one of four posts within the newly established community dietetic service. Maureen went on to lead the developing community service and for the past ten years has been Head of Service for the Lanarkshire Dietetic Service which includes Acute and Primary Care Services.

Maureen continues to work as a dietitian within NHS Lanarkshire’s tertiary eating disorder service.

She is chair of the Allied Health Professions Advisory Committee and chair of the Area Clinical Forum which provides clinical advice to the NHS Board.

Lesley McDonald

Biography
Lesley graduated from Glasgow University in 1989 and worked as a solicitor in private practice in Glasgow before moving to the public sector by taking up a post as a solicitor for the then Comhairle nan Eilean in 1993.

Since her retirement in 2018, Lesley has become a volunteer with Clydesdale Foodbank and a legal services charity which represents people who may otherwise not obtain access to legal advice, reflecting her concern for the most vulnerable in society.  In her role as carer for her father, she has gained first-hand experience of the challenges and opportunities of health and social care integration.

Biography
James Muir is a Chartered Accountant and experienced business leader with over 25 years’ experience in financial, operational, and strategic roles across a range of sectors including utilities, financial and outsourcing services.

James is currently the Chief Commercial Officer at V. Group, an industry leading provider of vessel management and marine services.  He previously held senior roles within the V. Group as Commercial Director, Business Development Director and Operations Director as well as accounting and finance roles in private and public sector organisations.

Sylvia Stewart

Biography
Sylvia has been employed with NHS Lanarkshire since 2000 as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist within Pathology at Law Hospital, University Hospital Wishaw and University Hospital Monklands.

Sylvia has been a Staff Side/Partnership Representative for 10 years and has been involved in partnership working at local, regional and national level such as the Scottish Terms and Conditions Committee and Scottish Partnership Forum.  She has been dedicated to the Trade Union Movement for many years and has served as the Unite NHS Lanarkshire Health Branch Chair as well as a National Executive Council Member of Unite the Union.

Sylvia is delighted to have been elected as NHS Lanarkshire’s Employee Director and Chair of Staff Side and she will work hard with our sister trade unions and professional organisations to serve our members, patients and staff across the Organisation, committed to partnership working, fairness and equality.

Biography
Donald Reid DipBS FRICS MBA graduated from the Glasgow College of Building and Printing with a Diploma in Building Surveying and qualified as a Chartered Building Surveyor in 1988; subsequently being elected as a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1995.  With over 35 years post qualified experience he has wide ranging capital project experience and has provided project management, development monitoring and building surveying services to banks and institutional property funds; commercial property investors; landlords and tenants; owner-occupiers; health trusts and local authorities.

Prior to joining with a former colleague to establish their own project management and building consultancy company in 2000, Donald spent over 10 years in charge of the building consultancy operations of local independent and international property consultancy firms. He has particular expertise in the healthcare sector and in strategic business planning and reorganisation management for large technology organisations.

Phillip Couser MBE

Biography
Phillip Couser MBE has worked at senior levels in the NHS in Scotland since 2013.

He was appointed as the Director of Data Driven Innovation in Public Health Scotland (PHS) on its formation in 2020; before retiring from this post in July 2021, he led PHS’s initial data and digital contribution to the pandemic response.

Prior to PHS, Phillip was Director for Public Health and Intelligence in NHS National Services Scotland, leading both Information Services Division and Health Protection Scotland.

From both these roles he brings a strong interest in public health and a passion for data driven and digitally enabled transformation.

Phillip’s NHS career started in 2008 in the Northeast of England leading planning for NHS North of Tyne, a health economy with many similarities to Lanarkshire. From 2011 until moving back to Scotland in 2013, he managed a clinical directorate in Guy’s and St Thomas’ in London.

Prior to 2008, Phillip had an Army career, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. Highlights included command of the Scottish Transport Regiment and the award of an MBE for leadership in national logistic planning for operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Nauman Dar is a graduate of the University of Strathclyde with over 20 years of experience in delivering large scale business transformations.

He is a dynamic and results orientated leader with a track record of leading global teams in order to deliver business outcomes and specialising in digital transformation delivery within agile and fast paced environments.

He is adept at developing critical solutions while standardising and improving current practises and procedures while also having a strong background in process and operations improvements and strategy and business planning.

Nauman is very passionate about helping NHS Lanarkshire achieve their objectives and feels his experience can add value to the Board.

Colin Lee

Biography
Colin Lee has been the Chief Executive of CEMVO Scotland since 2003 which is one of the leading national race equality organisations in Scotland. He brings to NHS Lanarkshire a wealth of experience and expertise in integrating race equality within organisational development processes.

He has worked within the Third Sector for over 25 years in areas which have included mental health, welfare and debt advice, housing and employment. This has provided him with wide knowledge and experience in various fields and in managing organisations and projects.

Colin is currently the Chair of the Scottish Court and Tribunal Service Equality Advisory Group and in 2011 was appointed the sole adviser to the Scottish Parliament Equal Opportunities Committee to help scrutinise the Scottish Government 2012-13 draft budget from a race / equalities perspective.

Siobhan White

Biography
Siobhan White is an Assistant Head for Learning, Teaching & Quality and Senior Lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University, and has teaching interests and expertise in a variety of under-graduate, post-graduate and professional programmes.

She specialises in the subject areas of public sector accounting and internal/external auditing, and public sector financial management, having previous work experience as a government external auditor. She is also actively involved in researching all of the above topics and has presented and published a range of papers in these areas, both in the UK and overseas.

Siobhan is also a Chartered Public Finance Accountant, a previous Non-Executive Director of West of Scotland Housing Association/Chair of their Audit Committee, the previous Chair of the Audit & Governance Panel at South Ayrshire Council, a past national examiner for CIPFA/ACCA, and current Non-Executive Board Member for the Scottish Housing Regulator and Chair of their Audit & Risk Assurance Committee.

Siobhan brings her knowledge and experience of governance, risk, public finance and audit to the Board.

Biography
Professor Jann Gardner joined NHS Lanarkshire as Chief Executive in December 2022 with over 30 years healthcare experience in clinical and management roles.

Jann was previously Chief Executive of NHS Golden Jubilee where she was responsible for the establishment of the Centre for Sustainable Delivery (CfSD) and the NHS Scotland Academy. Before that, Jann was Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer in NHS Fife and has worked across NHS GGC, NHS Forth Valley and in NHS England.

She started her career in NHS Lanarkshire as a pharmacist before moving into a range of clinical, professional management, transformation and senior executive roles. She has a personal interest in innovation and digital solutions as a key element of modern healthcare evolution.

Professor S. Josephine Pravinkumar

Biography
Originally from Chennai, India, Josephine began her career in the UK in 1995 in the specialty of obstetrics & gynaecology before moving to pursue her ambition to work in public health.

She has a strong association with NHS Lanarkshire, having joined in 1999 to train in public health medicine. Following a period as a consultant with NHS Ayrshire & Arran, Josephine returned to Lanarkshire in 2009 and has worked with the health board as a consultant in public health medicine since then.

Chris Deighan

Biography
Chris has been corporate deputy medical director at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde since June 2019, providing clinical leadership on Board-wide issues.

He previously held the post of chief of medicine for the north sector in Glasgow between 2015 and 2019, where he provided leadership across a broad spectrum of clinical specialties and, prior to that, clinical director for renal services and the centre for integrative care from 2009 to 2015. He has been a consultant renal physician since 2000.

Chris was clinical lead for the GG&C clinical service review strategy: Moving Forward Together and during the peak of the pandemic was deputy medical director for NHS Louisa Jordan and was also responsible for setting up phlebotomy hubs across the acute sector to support virtual patient management.

Michael Breen

Biography
Michael joined Lanarkshire on 1 April 2024. Prior to this, Michael previously held the role of Director of Finance with NHS Golden Jubilee.

Michael previously held the role of Vice Principal at Ayrshire College and also served as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of NHS Ayrshire & Arran, where he chaired the Audit and Risk Committee, held the role of Chair of the Integration Joint Board for Health and Social Care Services within East Ayrshire, and Chaired the Strategic Planning Group.

Colin Lauder

Biography
Colin was educated at Kelso High School, then gained a BSc in Astronomy & Astrophysics from St Andrews University and subsequently an MSc in Industrial Relations from Stirling University.

He joined NHS Scotland in 1987 through the National Management Training Scheme, and trained in the Borders and Glasgow.  Colin then worked in a variety of management roles in NHS Lothian, NHS Greater Glasgow and the Scottish Government before joining NHS Lanarkshire’s planning directorate in 2009.

He is married with two grown-up children. Colin spends his Saturday afternoons in the winter refereeing rugby matches.

Ross McGuffie

Biography

Ross has worked within the health and social care agenda in Lanarkshire since 2003, commencing within Health Improvement, which nurtured a focus on prevention, early intervention and living independently at home for as long as possible.

Following this, Ross moved into roles within general management and then from 2013-15, project managed the Health Board Boundary Changes, working jointly between NHS Lanarkshire and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Most recently, he held the position of Head of Planning, Performance and Quality Assurance within the North Lanarkshire Health and Social Care partnership.

Jacqui Jones

Biography
Jacqui joined NHS Lanarkshire on 1 July 2023 and is a highly experienced HR professional, manager and leader who has worked at Director level in NHS Scotland, local government, and at a senior level in the Civil Service. Jacqui was previously the Director of HR and Workforce Development for NHS National Services Scotland and Public Health Scotland.

Jacqui has specific expertise in situations involving major change management in NHS Scotland, local and central government, and in designing and delivering programmes and policies involving multiple stakeholders. Jacqui chairs and leads a number of national projects and is the Chair of the NHS Scotland HR Directors Group.

Donald Wilson

Biography
Donald took up post in February 2013. 

Donald has worked in a variety of roles over the past 30 years and brings extensive leadership experience from leading public sector teams across information management, information technology and digital.  Donald started his career as an apprentice software engineer within the aerospace industry and has worked for a number of different technology companies including Marconi Instruments, GEC Ferranti and Motorola. 

Donald was educated at Edinburgh Napier University where he gained a BSc in Information Systems and later an MBA.  With a commitment to continuous personal development he is undertaking a PhD at the University of Strathclyde.  He has a keen interest in research and innovation utilising digital to help transform the delivery of health and care services. 

Calvin Brown

Biography
Calvin graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a first-class BA Honours degree in Accounting. He went on to study journalism and worked as a reporter in England and Scotland before moving into public relations with South Lanarkshire Council. He started with the NHS in 2003 as Communications Manager for Lanarkshire Primary Care NHS Trust. He worked as Acting Head of Communications for NHS Lanarkshire from June 2016 before being appointed Director of Communications in 2017. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

Biography
Judith Park has held a variety of senior managerial positions in NHS Lanarkshire including Divisional General Manager for Surgery & Critical Care, Divisional General Manager for Women’s Services, Cancer & Diagnostics and Site General Manager (Wishaw General). Judith was appointed as Deputy Director of Acute Services in April 2018. And Director of Acute Services in November 2020. Prior to working in Lanarkshire, she was Patient Services Manager in NHS Forth Valley. Judith holds a BA (Hons) in Nursing and a post graduate Masters of Business Administration from Glasgow University. She joined the NHS in 1987 as a staff nurse and held a variety of clinical and managerial posts in Glasgow hospitals before moving to NHS Forth Valley.  Judith completed her Kings Fund Top Manager Programme in January 2019.

Judith has a strong focus in person centred care delivery and has been instrumental in her current role of providing operational and strategic leadership to the acute division during a time of extreme system pressures in NHS Lanarkshire.

At a regional level she participates in a number of groups on behalf of NHS Lanarkshire.

 

 

 

Soumen Sengupta

Biography

Soumen Sengupta is the Director of Health and Social Care for South Lanarkshire.

Alongside being Chief Officer for the South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership, he fulfils the role of:

  • Director of Social Work Services for South Lanarkshire Council, with strategic responsibility for the Children and Justice Services.
  • Director of Primary Care for NHS Lanarkshire, providing strategic leadership for pan-Lanarkshire Primary Care services.

His appointment as Director followed an extensive career in public health and in health and social care management; and his having led strategic transformation programmes at local, regional and national levels.

Soumen has a MSc in Public Health from the University of Aberdeen and an MBA from the University of Strathclyde.

Biography

Paul joined NHS Lanarkshire in September 2017, having spent 2 years previously as Deputy Head of Administration in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, and 4 years as Head of Administration in the Acute Division, also within Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Paul started his NHS career in Greater Glasgow Health Board in 1988.

As well as working in a variety of corporate support roles, in Argyll & Clyde Health Board, Fife Health Board, and during a two-year secondment in Scottish Government, he has also worked in hospital management as Assistant Chief Executive at Falkirk Royal Infirmary NHS Trust, and has almost 10 years’ experience of managing GP Out of Hours services, in Forth Valley, and in the North West of England.
