A highly interesting and interactive modern apprentice event was held in the Ronald Miller building at University Hospital Wishaw on Tuesday 23 January.
It formed part of a series of networking events that the employability team run for all NHS Lanarkshire modern apprentices to encourage peer to peer support and team building.
Sargent Sharon Black of the transport regiment Scotland and her fellow soldiers paid a visit to the modern apprentices.
This session’s objectives were to inform the modern apprentices on the value of team building techniques, clarify the size of the army, and go over the various roles that go into creating such an important unit.
Every apprentice present took pleasure in and fully engaged in team-building exercises, which taught them confidence, communication, and leadership abilities.
Sargent Sharon Black said: “This is incredibly important, in my opinion, especially when people are learning about different transferrable talents and are at different phases of their careers.”
The modern apprentices were divided into groups and given tasks by soldiers that they could only accomplish as a team, with each member contributing in some way.
Additionally, they had the chance to learn more about the activities of the army in their neighbourhood and to ask questions.
Even though the tasks were highly challenging, each team used teamwork abilities like organisation and communication to finish them. The modern apprentices were quite proud of themselves when they finished these activities. Everyone in attendance gained a lot of knowledge about one another as well as the army.
The modern apprenticeship programme offered by NHS Lanarkshire is an excellent opportunity for those aged 16 to 24 to gain practical job experience while pursuing a college-level certification.
