NHS Lanarkshire has welcomed a talented group of modern apprentices into its workforce.

NHS Lanarkshire’s Modern Apprenticeship Programme is a great way for 16-24 year olds to get experience directly in the workplace, working within NHS Lanarkshire while studying towards a college level qualification.

The 20 apprentices will be completing either a business/administration, health and social care or IT Modern Apprenticeship.

Jacqui Jones, Director of Human Resources for NHS Lanarkshire, said: “The apprenticeship program reflects NHS Lanarkshire’s commitment to ensuring a robust pipeline of skilled professionals in the wide variety of roles within the organisation that are required in order to deliver excellent care to patients.

“By nurturing young talent, we can enhance services and shape the future of healthcare in Lanarkshire.

“These modern apprentices are the future of frontline healthcare wider services, and we are thrilled to have them join our NHS family.

“We aim to provide these apprentices with a comprehensive learning experience that will equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their careers.”

Throughout the duration of the apprenticeship program, these new colleagues will have the invaluable opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals, gaining practical insights and hands-on experience in various settings.

The hands-on practical work allows apprentices to learn and gain experience in their chosen area, while earning a wage at the same time.

Nicole Grant, Senior Employability Advisor/Job Coach Lead, said: “Completing the programme will enable modern apprentices to develop skills and experience which will help them to progress and succeed within their career, along with gaining recognised qualifications.

“We are delighted to have welcoming these young people into the organisation as we will equally learn and benefit from their skillset and fresh perspectives.

“Our health and social care and business admin apprentices will go through their qualification with New College Lanarkshire and our IT apprentices with QA Ltd. Each apprentice has an assessor that supports them with their learning from these providers and in addition to this, they have a buddy in their own department along with input from our employability team, as our aim is for the young people to feel as supported and fulfilled in their roles as possible.”

Recruitment for the next cohort of Modern Apprentices is planned for later in the year and we hope to welcome a new group in January.

As an anchor organisation, NHS Lanarkshire is committed to playing an active role positively influencing the social, economic, and environmental conditions of our local communities. This includes working in partnership with local organisations and supporting employment initiatives that benefit our population.
