The Broons are continuing to play their part in supporting health and social care across Lanarkshire after the popular resource was renewed for a further year until August 2027.
Developed in partnership with NHS Lanarkshire and the area’s Health and Social Care Partnerships, the specially-created Broons comic strips help bring important health and wellbeing messages to life in a simple, engaging and accessible way.
Featuring familiar faces including Maw, Paw, Granpaw and The Bairn, the resources support the Home First approach, which aims to help people remain independent, stay active and receive care at home, or as close to home as possible, whenever it is safe to do so.
Nicola O’Donnell, Community Physiotherapy Lead, said: “The Broons resources are a friendly and accessible way to support important conversations about movement, recovery and independence. Using familiar characters helps make these messages feel relatable and easy to understand, whether in hospital, community services or local engagement events.
“We’re really pleased the licence has been extended, allowing teams across Lanarkshire to continue using the materials to support the Home First approach and help people stay as active and independent as possible.”
The comic strips cover a range of topics linked to maintaining independence, preventing deconditioning and supporting recovery following illness or a stay in hospital. Their easy-to-read format makes them suitable for a wide range of audiences and settings.
The resources have been widely used by Health Improvement teams and at community events across Lanarkshire, helping staff engage with patients, families and local communities in a friendly and approachable way.
As the licence has now been extended until August 2027, colleagues are being reminded that the materials remain available for use across services and may be particularly useful in ward areas, outpatient settings, rehabilitation services, community teams and public engagement activity.
The Broons resources provide another way of supporting meaningful conversations about health, wellbeing, movement and independence, using characters that generations of Scots know and trust.
