NHS Lanarkshire is once again working with local and national partners to highlight this year’s Challenge Poverty Week, running from Monday 6 – Sunday 12 October. Keep an eye on the hashtags #ChallengePoverty and #CPW25 which will feature on social media over the course of the week.
Senior Health Improvement officer Jo Duffy said: “Challenge Poverty Week is a powerful opportunity to shine a spotlight on some of the issues which can affect our staff, patients and communities.
“Organised each year by the Poverty Alliance, it is a chance for us to focus attention on the work we continuously do with organisations across the country and provide a collective voice against poverty.
“As an Anchor Organisation, NHS Lanarkshire is in a prime position to support this work locally through our service delivery pillar, but we can also act across other areas, such as procurement and fair employment, to tackle head on some of the root causes of poverty.”
There are limited spaces still available for some of the national webinars during the week, including:
- The Poverty Alliance – Breakfast Briefings on each daily theme
- The Improvement Service – Bite sized sessions on using data to tackle child poverty
- The Joseph Rowntree Foundation – Poverty in Scotland 2025 webinar
We will be participating in a Community Networking event, hosted by South Lanarkshire Council on Friday 10 October, open to all staff and residents across the area; https://www.southlanarkshire.gov.uk/cp/cne2025
In North Lanarkshire, a number of events have been organised and promoted directly to key target groups. Staff will also be present at various pop-ups across our acute and community sites.
Links to local information and supports are available on our public facing NHS Lanarkshire Cost of living Page. We have also updated our Tackling Poverty FirstPort page, which contains downloadable FAQ documents, with tips on how to support staff and patients with money worries.
