NHS Lanarkshire RAAC Update

Sep 22, 2023

reads Staff Update RAAC

You may have seen recent reports in the media on the use of Reinforced Autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) in schools and healthcare buildings.

The Scottish Government and NHS Assure are currently carrying out a review of all NHS Scotland buildings thought to contain RAAC.

We have already carried out surveys prior to the national approach being taken and identified one location, Biggar Health Centre, as containing RAAC . This building is in good condition and is being regularly inspected.

NHS Assure have appointed a national commission to inspect properties identified as having a medium and high risk of containing RAAC, determined from a desk top survey.  They have advised they are progressing with current plans to review properties and are in discussion with the Scottish Government on any further advice to that should be offered to Health Boards.

We will provide further updates when they are available but want to reassure staff that we are monitoring the situation regularly.
