Staff Awards finalist spotlight: Neonatal, Special Care and Transitional Care Team

Sep 15, 2026

In the lead-up to the NHS Lanarkshire Staff Awards 2026, we are shining a spotlight on the exceptional individuals and teams shortlisted for this year’s awards.

Today, we are celebrating the Neonatal, Special Care and Transitional Care Team.

The team supports some of NHS Lanarkshire’s smallest and most vulnerable patients, as well as the families beside them throughout what can be an emotional and uncertain time.

Its specialist clinical expertise is matched by genuine kindness and compassion. Recognising that neonatal care affects the entire family, team members ensure parents are listened to, kept informed and supported to become active partners in caring for their baby.

Rather than feeling like visitors, families are encouraged to take part in decisions, ward rounds and hands-on care. This helps parents build confidence, strengthen those vital early bonds and feel fully involved in their baby’s journey.

The team’s family-centred approach has helped the unit achieve Bliss Baby Charter Gold Accreditation – the highest level of recognition for outstanding family-integrated neonatal care.

Despite the pressures and uncertainty that can come with neonatal care, staff remain fully present for every baby and family. The trust and lasting relationships they create are reflected in the many families who return after discharge to reconnect with the team or simply say thank you.

The Neonatal, Special Care and Transitional Care Team has been shortlisted for delivering care that is highly skilled, compassionate, resilient and truly centred on the needs of babies and their families.

The NHS Lanarkshire Staff Awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday 7 October 2026.

Look out for more finalist spotlights in the lead-up to the ceremony.
