As part of Dietitians Week (1-5 June), NHS Lanarkshire’s paediatric dietitians are celebrating what it means to be part of a profession with real purpose. As paediatric dietitians, their role goes far beyond food – they support children and families at some of the most important and sometimes challenging stages of life, helping them feel heard, understood and empowered.
Emma O’Donnell, paediatric dietitian at University Hospital Wishaw, said: “We take the time to listen to our patients’ concerns and experiences as well as individual needs, in recognising that nutrition is only one part of a much bigger picture.
“Our work is highly collaborative and we are proud to be part of a multi-disciplinary team alongside health visitors, infant feeding specialists, consultants, pharmacists and many others. Together, we provide holistic, family-centred care”.
Emma continued: “Paediatric dietetics is constantly evolving. We are committed to staying up-to-date with the latest research and guidance to ensure we deliver safe, effective and evidence-based nutrition support. Whether supporting growth, managing complex medical conditions, or promoting healthy eating habits, our goal is always the same – giving children the best possible start in life”.
