Lanarkshire will shine bright in support of Mental Health Awareness Week (11-17 May), with all three of our hospitals illuminated pink in partnership with Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH).
The initiative aims to raise awareness of mental health, encourage important conversations and show support for people across our organisation and communities who may be struggling.
As part of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week theme, “Action,” all three acute sites will be lit in pink to symbolise hope, understanding and solidarity for those affected by mental health challenges. The pink lighting will act as a powerful reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health, while highlighting that support is available and that no one should feel alone when facing mental health difficulties.
The campaign aims to encourage open conversations and remind people that asking for help is a sign of strength.
NHS Lanarkshire Health Improvement Senior, Kelly McLean, said: “Mental Health Awareness Week is an important opportunity to remind people that support is available and that no one should feel alone in their struggles. By lighting our hospital sites pink, we hope to spark conversations, reduce stigma and encourage people to take positive action for their own mental wellbeing and for those around them.”
NHS Lanarkshire is helping raise awareness and reinforce the message that mental health matters every day and Mental Health Awareness Week gives us an opportunity to reflect on how small everyday actions can positively impact wellbeing.
The campaign is encouraging everyone to think about the actions they can take to support positive mental wellbeing:
For yourself: take some time to be kind to you.
For others: support family, colleagues, friends, and community members.
For all: create change and a culture of prevention.
For your workplace: encourage, kindness, compassion and empathy.
