Colleagues paid a fond, virtual, farewell to operations manager Tom Gibb, who retired in March after a remarkable 39 years’ service.
Tom, who was based at Salus occupational health, Beckford Street, Hamilton, began his career in the operating theatres at the former Law Hospital where he covered maternity leave in infection control before moving to occupational health in 1994.
Tom was quickly promoted from occupational health advisor to operations manager and latterly co-ordinated the Covid-19 staff testing before retiring. Tom was responsible for all things quality-related, including International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) registration and the Safe, Effective, Quality Occupational Health Service (SEQOHS).
Tom lives with his wife Elspeth in Carluke and has two sons, one of whom is a lawyer in Glasgow and the other a teacher in Aberdeen. In his spare time, Tom enjoys swimming, listening to music and walking, but his favourite pastime is holidaying abroad with Elspeth and friends.
Kay Japp, principal occupational health advisor, said: “Tom is the ‘go to’ person in Salus. He is approachable, professional, hard-working, gives good advice and is always willing to go the extra mile. He is steady, reliable and generally a really nice person.
“We will all miss him but wish him health and happiness in his well-deserved retirement.”
