What is NHS Lanarkshire (NHSL) Staff Bank?

The NHSL Staff Bank provides workforce solutions for NHSL by supplying an on demand, cost effective, appropriately skilled workforce to cover temporary shortages within the nursing and midwifery, allied professions, administration and support services workforce.

Approximately 4500 staff are employed within the staff bank across the wide range of specialities. The diversity of services covered provides an ideal environment for staff to gain new knowledge and skills

Bank staff are supplied on demand and there is no guarantee of work.

The NHSL Staff bank is an excellent route for those who wish to gain an insight into other areas and specialities and is often a route into permanent employment.

External applicants

If you do not work for NHS Lanarkshire in a substantive role and you are not currently studying Nursing, Midwifery, one of the Allied Health Professions or Paramedic Science, then you can use our external application process to join our Staff Bank.

We advertise on NHS Scotland’s centralised recruitment website jobs.scot.nhs.uk on a seasonal basis, so that means there won’t always be an advert live but we usually have at least one advert for Nurses, Midwives, and Healthcare Support workers per quarter.

You can contact our External Recruitment Team if you have any questions about an existing application, but please don’t contact us to check whether an advert is live or upcoming as that’s not something the team has control over.

Training

To enable you to join NHSL Staff Bank you are required to complete compulsory training.

This involves a combination of training courses and e-learning modules. The 12 e-learning modules take approximately 7 hours to complete.

Additionally Clinical staff must attend Core Professional Induction, Manual Handling and Basic Life Support training.

Please note compulsory/mandatory online training is completed in own time and compulsory/mandatory practical training is paid for.

All training must be completed and evidenced prior to joining the NHSL Staff Bank.

Using our Staff Bank Booking System (EOL)

We use a booking system called Employee Online that lets you book shifts yourself!

You will need your login details to book shifts, which should have been sent to you when you first joined the Staff Bank. We are aware of an issue with Gmail addresses not receiving our automated emails, so if you signed up to EOL using a Gmail address then you should contact our Booking Office for help with resetting your login details.

Visit Employee Online to log in!

Changing your contract or adding a Pay Band

We have an existing process to manage changes to your contract, including changing your Band or adding an additional Band. Contact our Booking Office to get started.

For each AfC Pay Band that you work as in the Staff Bank you will have another contract of employment, so for example if you work substantively as a Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker, and you have the option to work on the Staff Bank as a Band 3 or a Band 2, then in total you will have 3 contracts of employment with NHS Lanarkshire. We tend to find that most people just have 2; their substantive contract and their Bank contract at the same or lower Band.

You can apply for making changes to your contract by contacting our Booking Office!

Annual Leave, Sickness Absence, Pay Dates – Staff Bank Welcome Pack

We have policies and procedures in place to manage Annual Leave and Sickness Absence for our Staff Bank workers appropriately. The best way to get a copy of these SOPs would be to contact our Staff Bank Pay Office.

We are aware that many of our staff are keen to change their existing Staff Bank contract so that they can be paid weekly.

Preparations are underway to make it possible for you to change your pay frequency, but this will be a one-time irreversible change so please take some time to consider whether it is the right decision for you.

We will be in touch with all our Staff Bank workers by email in the near future to explain how the changeover process will work.
