After 30 years’ service, Dr Ken Robertson retired from his position as associate specialist in anaesthesia. In November 1993, Ken was appointed to Hairmyres and Stonehouse NHS Trust as a staff grade doctor in anaesthetics. At the time he was the only staff grader in the department for the first two years.
In 1996, Ken was made up to an associate specialist when he began covering anaesthetic services at Stonehouse Hospital before moving to Hairmyres when surgical services were transferred.
In 2004 at Wishaw maternity unit, Ken began covering obstetric anaesthetic duties and spent about one third of his time there for the next 15 years. Ken is well known around Hairmyres, with him covering many operating lists over the years, as well as contributing to the theatre on-call rota in inter-hospital transfers.
Ken also provided service with elective work at University Hospital Monklands when required.
Ken had retired in August 2019 but returned for another year of service before retiring at the end of 2020.
In line with Covid-19 restrictions, a small celebration was held to mark his retirement.
