Development Opportunities

We have a strong commitment to training and development of our staff. Formal and informal opportunities and programmes of learning and support help create an environment of continuous improvement, with the associated benefits to patient care.

NHS Lanarkshire is committed to developing a discipline of continuous improvement through patient care, changing practice and also to create a good place to work for everyone at NHS Lanarkshire.

NHS Lanarkshire use some online learning management systems so employees can access essential learning and resources. Examples of these include:

  • Turas Learn
  • LearnPro

Turas Learn

Turas Learn is NHS Education for Scotland’s platform for learning and support resources.

It provides our health and social care employees with access to learning and support resources. These resources come in different forms such as programmes, guidelines and other related materials produced by NHSScotland Boards and other organisations, including the Scottish Government.

Find out more on the Turas Learn website: https://learn.nes.nhs.scot/

LearnPro

NHS Lanarkshire use this online site for staff to complete learning courses (some of which are mandatory for all NHS Lanarkshire staff) and some which are specific to certain roles or anyone willing to widen their knowledge.

Personal Development Planning & Review

Personal Development Planning & Review (PDP&R) is an ongoing process, which supports our colleagues in learning and development.

This encourages staff to have regular conversations with their manager and helps to:

  • set out the expectations in your role, leading to safe and effective patient care
  • encourage ideas for improving existing services
  • identify opportunities for new learning, gaining new skills or improving on existing ones
  • review staff contribution to team objectives

The Knowledge & Skills Framework (KSF) is a very wide framework, as it covers all of the roles and functions of the different staff groups in the NHS in Scotland.

Find out more about PDP&R on the Knowledge and Skills Framework website: http://www.ksf.scot.nhs.uk/about

Career Development Programme

NHS Lanarkshire launched a new career development programme in August for both clinical and non-clinical staff which can be easily accessed via LearnPro. The sessions take place on Microsoft Teams with a range of dates and times so staff have flexibility in taking part.

The programme consists of three different parts which target different skill areas for our colleagues. These come in a variety of formats such as workshops or coaching. The workshops are set to run until June 2023 and include sessions on job satisfaction, work-life balance, ability, making a difference and achievements. If staff attend one of the workshops they are eligible to apply for the two career coaching sessions.

Another area of focus is the ‘empower hours’ which covers areas such as creating application forms, interview skills and creating and updating LinkedIn networking profiles.

This programme aims to strengthen our colleague’s skills by being able to recognise their strengths and equip them with knowledge to help them to achieve their goals.

The programme can be accessed via https://nhs.learnprouk.com/lms/login.aspx.

Medical Education

NHS Lanarkshire’s medical education department is at the heart of ongoing training and support for our staff to ensure they are getting clinical learning at a high standard. There is training available for staff at all levels and there are opportunities to strengthen working as a part of a team via simulations at the training centre.

Our facilitators within the training centre at our Kirklands site are dedicated and knowledgeable and strive for providing excellent training opportunities. For more information on this please visit our MedEd website: https://www.medednhsl.com/meded/start/welcome.asp.
