Three members of staff from Lady Home Hospital in Douglas took part in the annual Chris’s House Walk of Hope held in Glasgow on 10 May to raise awareness of suicide.

Clinical support workers Wilma Aikman and Roma Sim and Jan Gourlay, catering staff, walked through the night from 3am until 5am to complete the 5k event.

Wilma said: “All three of us have been personally affected by suicide and it was something we all wanted to do to highlight the situation. We didn’t ask for donations as it was a personal cause for us, however, the staff on duty that day at Lady Home kindly donated and in total we raised £185 which we were delighted with.

“The walk is done through the night where everyone walks in hope from night until light. We all had a yellow rose and said a small prayer before throwing it into the River Clyde.

Prior to the event, a choir and singer provided entertainment along with testimonials from people affected by suicide and those who had personally been supported by Chris`s House.
