Michael Simpson, head of sustainability and climate change, NHS Lanarkshire, said: “NHS Lanarkshire’s Sustainability and Climate Change strategic plan has been in development for some time and we are pleased to be in a position to seek engagement from the organisation, our partners and the public.
“The strategic plan will set out how NHS Lanarkshire will become a net-zero carbon organisation by 2040 at the latest, in line with the need for action in light of the climate emergency and national objectives. We recognise healthcare has a significant role to play in not only tackling climate change but using sustainability as a way to reduce inequalities and improve public health.
“As such, we are keen the strategy takes into account key pieces of work from across the organisation and the team are engaging are groups across Finance, Planning, Public Health, Staff Side, and the Area Clinical Forum, including the Theatres Sustainability Group. In our role as an anchor organisation, we have also engaged our third sector and HSCP partners.
“We welcome any and all feedback on the draft strategic plan, a final version of the strategy is to be presented to the Board in October this year.”
