The Quit Your Way team within NHS Lanarkshire partnered with art and design students at New College Lanarkshire to create a new, eye-catching awareness campaign. Named ‘Escape the Vape’, the campaign is aimed at children and young people, encouraging them to avoid vaping.
The strapline ‘Escape the Vape’ was selected after nearly 1,000 local children and young people voted for their favourite title for the campaign. The Junior Graphic Designers then got to work creating engaging designs to capture the attention of the next generation.
Five designs were shortlisted as part of the competition, and after a public vote, the winning artwork, created by Karolina Kurdziel from Cumbernauld, was officially chosen.
The runners-up were Tobias Brannan and Erin McFarlane.
Clare McCool, Alcohol, Vaping & Cannabis Team Leader at NHS Lanarkshire, said: “We’re delighted with the outcome of our new vaping awareness designs.
“Vaping is not risk-free, and we don’t know much about its long-term effects.
“Most vapes contain nicotine, which is addictive. With teenagers’ brains still developing, they can become addicted to nicotine much faster than adults. This project is crucial to supporting young people who vape, or who are considering vaping.
“We’re really grateful to New College Lanarkshire’s HNC Art and Design students for working with us. The calibre of work from all the students involved was truly outstanding.”
Karolina Kurziel, designer of the winning artwork, said: “Vaping is not taken seriously enough, especially among the youth. I’m glad I could help spread awareness while doing something I love.”
Sandra Ord, HNC course team leader, New College Lanarkshire, added: “Our students love to work on live projects, especially where they feel their designs have the power to make a difference.
“As a result, we too are very grateful for the opportunity to work with the NHS and incredibly proud of the hard work all our students demonstrated throughout this project.”
