Stop the Pressure Week: Focusing on What Matters to Patients

Nov 19, 2025

NHS Lanarkshire is supporting Stop the Pressure Week from 17–21 November, joining health and care services across the UK in raising awareness of pressure ulcer prevention.

Pressure ulcers can affect anyone -from newborns to people at the end of life -and occur in every care setting. Because individuals often move between services, consistent, evidence-based prevention is essential to protect those at risk.

This year’s theme, “What matters to me”, highlights the importance of listening to patients and working with them to shape their care. Prevention isn’t something done to patients -it’s something done with them.

The Society of Tissue Viability is offering a range of free online events throughout the week, alongside downloadable resources, videos, and practical tools to support learning and reflection.

Neringa McPhail, Senior Nurse – Tissue Viability, said: “Pressure ulcer prevention is everyone’s responsibility. Small actions -like checking skin, supporting people to move regularly and involving them in decisions -make an enormous difference.

“Stop the Pressure Week is an opportunity to pause, reflect and make sure we’re helping people live safely, comfortably and with dignity. Our focus on ‘what matters to me’ helps ensure care is personal, compassionate and tailored to each individual.”
