As we approach the festive period, there is still time for health and social care staff to get their flu vaccination to protect themselves and those around them including patients and their families.
The flu vaccine is offered every year to provide the best possible protection against the virus which can change from year to year.
Most people who get flu will recover in a few days to less than two weeks, but some people will develop complications which can be life-threatening and result in death
There are a number of options for getting your flu vaccination including drop in sessions at our vaccination clinics, booking an appointment and occupational health will be offering on site vaccinations.
Dr Chris Deighan, Executive Medical Director took the time to get his flu and Covid vaccines at the SAS bus which visited Kirklands last week.
He said: “Vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself and others and we’re pleased to see so many people in Lanarkshire coming forward to take up the offer.
“Evidence shows that the flu virus changes over time. The vaccine offered this season can top up your protection against severe illness from flu.
“Those that have not yet received their flu vaccine are strongly encouraged to come forward and make an appointment. We also advise checking our local arrangements as we have a range of vaccination sites and pop up clinics.”
You can visit our website at https://www.nhslanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk/covid-19-vaccine-centres/ to find out about local drop in clinics.
Please keep an eye on our website and our social media for daily updates on local drop in clinics over the next couple of weeks.
Anyone who wishes to get their Covid 19 vaccination can also get it along with their flu vaccine.
