Guiding more than 300 families through the challenges of childhood epilepsy, the specialist nursing team of Paula Wilson, Carol McMillan and Clare McDevitt has been named a finalist in this year’s NHS Lanarkshire Staff Awards.
Based at University Hospital Wishaw, the team offers vital clinical and emotional support to children with complex seizure conditions. Their dedicated telephone line is often the difference between reassurance at home and an emergency hospital visit — helping families, schools, GPs and community teams manage care safely and confidently.
Paula and Carol, both certified Roald Dahl Specialist Nurses, lead joint transition clinics with adult epilepsy services to ease young people into ongoing care. Clare provides essential hands-on support at home and in clinic, building skills and confidence for families every step of the way.
Together, they turn complexity into clarity — delivering compassionate, coordinated care that gives families hope for the future.
