Described by patients as “a ray of sunshine,” Assistant Practitioner Maureen Allan has been named a finalist in the 2025 NHS Lanarkshire Staff Awards for her exceptional support to older adults living with dementia and mental health conditions in Bellshill.
Part of the Older Adult Community Mental Health Team, Maureen has built a thriving network of community-based support — from therapeutic gardening groups to gentle walking sessions and drop-in cafés for patients and carers. Her approach is always person-centred, adapting each activity to suit individual needs and abilities, and creating spaces where everyone feels included, respected and safe.
Beyond the groups, Maureen visits people at home, supports mobility, teaches families coping strategies and connects them to community resources she’s helped develop.
With warmth, creativity and tireless commitment, Maureen is transforming how mental health support is delivered — proving that purpose, connection and compassion are powerful tools for wellbeing.
