After nearly 40 years of dedicated service, Medical Secretary Helen Gibson has been named a finalist in the 2025 NHS Lanarkshire Staff Awards — recognised for a lifetime of compassion, commitment and quiet leadership.
Helen has been the constant behind Motherwell’s Psychological Therapies Team, supporting patients and colleagues with care and precision since the service launched at Airbles Road in 2011. Known for her calm efficiency, she triages referrals, manages complex admin systems, covers reception without hesitation and steps in seamlessly when other teams are short.
She’s also the go-to guide for new staff, having written detailed system manuals, built accurate trackers and mentored countless colleagues through their early days. Patients feel her empathy too — often describing her as the first reassuring voice on their journey to recovery.
As she approaches retirement, Helen leaves behind more than just well-organised processes — she leaves a culture of kindness, teamwork and trust.
