For more than 15 years, the Lanarkshire Blood Borne Virus (BBV) Prevention and Care Network has worked tirelessly to prevent and treat HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C — and now the team has been named a finalist in the 2025 NHS Lanarkshire Staff Awards.
Made up of nurses, doctors, pharmacists and outreach workers, the Network delivers stigma-free support to some of the region’s most marginalised groups — including people who inject drugs, those in custody, refugees, sex workers and travelling communities. Their mission: eliminate hepatitis C in Lanarkshire.
Their work is bold and wide-reaching. Over the past year alone, Liver Health Roadshows reached more than 800 people, a prison-wide testing programme screened nearly 450 individuals in just three days, and hundreds of people previously “lost to follow-up” have now been reconnected with care.
With compassion, innovation and unwavering partnership, the BBV Network is changing lives — and saving them.
