The Adult Learning Disabilities Occupational Therapy team continues to champion the benefits of connecting with nature, with another successful event held during last week’s Green Health Week 2025 (3rd – 11th May).
Occupational Therapy organised a staff wellbeing event at Kirklands Hospital, bringing the outdoors to the workplace with a unique and refreshing session titled ‘Cuppa in the Car Park’. The event encouraged staff to step outside, unwind, and enjoy refreshments in a peaceful natural setting.
Participants were treated to a variety of hot drinks brewed using a kelly kettle, alongside delicious campfire s’mores and toasted teacakes. With hammocks set up under the trees, staff had the opportunity to relax and recharge amidst nature during their busy day.
Jacqueline Cannon, Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner (OTAP), NHS Lanarkshire, said: “Our event highlights the importance of green health not only for patients but also for healthcare staff.
“We regularly facilitates nature-based programmes for patients as part of Occupational Therapy, including nature walks, bush craft skills, and other transferable activities aligned with the John Muir Award.
“These initiatives support both mental and physical wellbeing, reinforcing the team’s commitment to holistic, person-centred care that embraces the therapeutic value of the natural environment.”
