Speak your mind: What is it like working in NHS Lanarkshire?

Oct 19, 2023

NHS Lanarkshire has commissioned Affina Organisation Development (AOD) to explore and assess the culture within the organisation. Culture, put simply, is ‘the way that we do things around here’.

The survey is based on extensive research across the NHS over the last 20 years and will provide valuable insight into how staff view the culture within NHS Lanarkshire.

Professor Jann Gardner, chief executive of NHS Lanarkshire, said: “It is hugely important for our staff to be able to tell us what they feel the culture is like working in NHS Lanarkshire. This will provide us with the opportunity to learn where we can make any changes that will ensure the delivery of high quality, person-centred and compassionate care for the people of Lanarkshire and also promote the wellbeing and development of staff.

“We already have a compassionate leadership in the organisation through our Quality Strategy and Staff Health & Wellbeing Strategy. This survey will allow us to strengthen this and keep NHS Lanarkshire a great place for people to work. The survey will also help us to hear your voice and measure how our staff view our culture, to allow us to make changes to ensure NHS Lanarkshire is an excellent organisation for staff and our service users. Your views really matter and will make a difference”

The areas that will be evaluated are:

  • vision and values;
  • goals and performance;
  • learning and innovation;
  • team working;
  • collective leadership;
  • compassionate care;
  • compassionate leadership;
  • equality and inclusion.

Individual responses will not be identifiable. NHS Lanarkshire will receive a summary report and therefore individual views will not be known to the organisation.

Most staff will receive an email from AOD to their NHS Lanarkshire email address on Monday 30 October. This will contain a URL link which will take you to the survey.

If you are an NHS Lanarkshire member of staff and do not receive an email, the survey can be accessed through a unique QR code. The QR code will be included in posters which will be displayed throughout NHS Lanarkshire.

Staff who do not have access to IT equipment can complete the survey in any of NHS Lanarkshire’s libraries. The libraries are based in the three acute hospitals and at Law House. Computers are available at all sites and staff can provide support with logging on, if needed. Libraries are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The survey, which should take approximately 15 minutes to complete, will open on Monday 30 October and run until Sunday 19 November.
