#Red4Research Day aims to get as many people as possible, across the globe, wearing red to demonstrate their support and appreciation for all those participating, undertaking and supporting research.
The R&D service in NHS Lanarkshire is led by Raymond Hamill, senior research and development (R&D) manager and his senior colleagues – Steven Marshall, lead clinical trials pharmacist and Berni Welsh, lead clinical research nurse. The overall R&D service includes the R&D governance admin team, research nurses/practitioners, healthcare support workers, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
They, in turn, support our clinical teams – consultants, AHPs, nurses and other professions – who carry out various roles in the conduct of research, including acting as principal and co-investigators.
Our research teams have bases in each of the three acute hospitals, each of which has its own dedicated clinical spaces and specialist equipment to care for study patients and healthy volunteers.
The team supports a wide-ranging portfolio of studies ranging from small locally-managed treatment studies to international, novel drug treatment studies, giving some patients access to the latest treatments much earlier than would otherwise be the case.
There are currently over 100 research studies running across NHS Lanarkshire.
Raymond Hamill, Senior R&D Manager said: We appreciate all of the exceptional work that our amazing R&D team does here in NHS Lanarkshire. However, we also want to stress how grateful we are to the many other departments and colleagues within NHS Lanarkshire who also support research – such as radiology, pharmacy, clinical laboratories, cardiology and others. Without their contribution it would be impossible to offer our patients access to new treatments through approved research.
“We are, of course, extremely grateful to those patients and their carers, and other study volunteers, for their contribution to research and therefore their contribution to improving health care and services.”
