Public Protection Team launches Training Week 2026

Oct 16, 2026

Staff from across NHS Lanarkshire are being invited to take part in a series of bite-sized learning sessions as part of Public Protection Training Week 2026, taking place from 26 to 30 October.

Organised by NHS Lanarkshire’s Public Protection Services, the week has been developed in response to feedback from staff and will bring together expertise from Adult Protection, Child Protection, Gender-Based Violence and Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA).

A range of one-hour virtual sessions will be delivered throughout the week, providing practical learning opportunities that staff can easily fit around their working day.

The programme aims to strengthen understanding of public protection issues, build confidence in responding to concerns and promote safer practice across health services.

Lorna Downie (NHS Lanarkshire), Adult Support & Protection Advisor, said: “Public protection is everyone’s responsibility and we want to make it as easy as possible for staff to access learning that helps them recognise and respond to potential concerns.

“In response to feedback from our staff survey, colleagues from across the Public Protection Service have developed a diverse programme of bite-sized sessions covering topics relevant to a wide range of roles and services. We hope staff will take advantage of the opportunity to learn more, share knowledge and further strengthen the quality and safety of the care we provide.

“Our Public Protection Services, including Child Protection, Adult Protection, Gender-Based Violence and MAPPA, are all contributing to this year’s programme.

“The Training Week is an opportunity for colleagues to enhance their knowledge, explore current practice issues and better understand the role each of us plays in protecting vulnerable children, young people and adults.”

Sessions running throughout the week will include:

  • MARAC (Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference)
  • Contextual Safeguarding
  • NOCPC/AP1 and Defensible Decision Making
  • Falls and Adult Support & Protection
  • Chronologies
  • ASP and Domestic Abuse

  • MAPPA (Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements)

  • Resolution and Escalation Guidance for Adults and Children

The sessions will be delivered via Microsoft Teams and are open to NHS Lanarkshire staff.
