Power of books boosts staff wellbeing

An online book club will help NHS Lanarkshire staff discover the power of books in boosting their wellbeing.

The book club, which will be held during Staff Health and Wellbeing Week, will celebrate health, happiness and the love of reading.

Events include:

Tuesday 31 October – 12noon – 1pm. The Books We Love

Join our relaxed lunchtime Teams call to chat about our favourite books. Either search for NHSL Book Group on Teams or email us at libraries@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk to be added to the Teams channel.

Thursday 2 November – 12noon – 1pm. The Books We Hate!
Another lunchtime Teams chat. This time talking about our most hated books! Either search for NHSL Book Group on Teams or email us at libraries@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk to be added to the Teams channel.

Amanda Minns, head of evidence, said: “As healthcare professions, we often focus on the physical wellbeing of our staff, but we must not forget the profound impact that nurturing the mind can have on overall wellbeing.

“Reading and attending book groups are not just leisure activities. For some they can be essential in mental wellbeing and offer a space to find solace, inspiration and connection.

“If you enjoy reading and would like to meet up with like-minded colleagues, I would encourage you to join our teams calls.”

NHS Lanarkshire’s libraries have a wide collection of wellbeing books that are accessible for all staff. They can be accessed within the libraries or via the Knowledge Network.

The books cover a wide range of topics including: mindfulness, stress management, sleep, menopause and journaling.
