Pertussis (Whooping Cough)

Jul 3, 2024

There has been a significant rise in laboratory-confirmed cases of Pertussis (whooping cough) across Scotland. This trend is consistent with increasing cases throughout the UK and Europe.

Why This Matters: The immunisation of healthcare workers who regularly interact with pregnant women, young infants, and other vulnerable groups is crucial. These patients are at higher risk of severe or complicated infections from Pertussis.

Action Required:

  • Who: Healthcare staff across Lanarkshire, including those in general practices with regular clinical contact with unimmunised babies.
  • What: Vaccination against Pertussis.
  • How: Call our vaccination team on 01698 687456 to book an appointment at a convenient time at a vaccination centre.  The team are available Monday to Thursday between 9am and 5pm, and Friday between 9am and 4.30pm.

Please encourage your colleagues to take up this vaccination opportunity promptly to help protect our most vulnerable patients.

Thank you for your support.
