A member of staff from University Hospital Wishaw has been selected to represent Team Scotland at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Steven Bryce, who works in the decontamination department, has been named in Team Scotland’s para athletics squad and will make his Commonwealth Games debut in the Men’s T20 1500m.
Angela Kennedy, Senior Charge Nurse Day Surgery/Endoscopy, said: “We are incredibly proud of Steven’s achievement and delighted to see his hard work and commitment recognised through selection for Team Scotland.
“As a valued member of our decontamination department, Steven plays an important role in supporting clinical care. To see him go on to represent Scotland at a home Commonwealth Games is a fantastic accomplishment and an inspiration to colleagues across NHS Lanarkshire.
“We wish Steven every success as he prepares to compete and will be cheering him on throughout the Games.”
Steven is one of eight para athletes selected to represent Scotland and one of three athletes chosen for the T20 1500m event. The inclusion of the T20 category at Glasgow 2026 marks a significant milestone for the Commonwealth Games and will see some of Scotland’s most successful para athletes compete on the Commonwealth stage for the first time.
Steven’s selection follows a series of impressive performances at national and international level and reflects years of dedication both on and off the track.
A world championship finalist, Steven trains with Fife Athletics Club alongside Paralympic champions Ben Sandilands and Owen Miller under the guidance of coach Steve Doig. The trio have trained and competed together for several years and will all be aiming for podium success.
Glasgow 2026 will feature the largest para sport programme in Commonwealth Games history, with Team Scotland fielding its biggest-ever para athletics squad. The Games will provide Steven with the opportunity to compete on home soil in front of Scottish supporters as he makes his Commonwealth Games debut.
Colleagues across NHS Lanarkshire will be following Steven’s progress closely and joining the wider sporting community in wishing him the very best for Glasgow 2026.
