NHS Lanarkshire’s Staff Concert Orchestra is getting ready to begin its second year – and is inviting colleagues with musical talents to come along and get involved.
The orchestra has enjoyed a busy and successful first year, bringing staff together through music while supporting a number of important causes across Lanarkshire.
Since forming, members have performed at the NHS Lanarkshire Staff Awards, as well as taking part in charity concerts supporting the Phoenix Futures addiction service, Wishaw Food Bank and Wishaw Men’s Shed.
Following their performance last year, the orchestra has been welcomed back to perform at the NHS Lanarkshire Staff Awards 2026 ceremony.
Dr Evelyn Ferguson, Clinical Director of Obstetrics and lead for the NHS Lanarkshire Staff Concert Orchestra, said: “We’ve had such an enjoyable and successful first year and it has been fantastic to see the orchestra develop.
“One of the nicest things about the group is how inclusive it is. Many of our members have returned to playing an instrument after a long break and have really enjoyed rediscovering it. It gives us the chance to switch off from the pressures of work, enjoy making music together and meet colleagues from across NHS Lanarkshire.
“We play all sorts of music, including some fantastic original compositions from our resident bass guitarist, and we can accommodate lots of different instruments. If you’ve been thinking about joining us, please don’t be shy – you’ll receive a very warm welcome.”
The orchestra rehearses every Tuesday at 6.30pm in the Ronald Miller Lecture Theatre.
Colleagues do not need to be available for every rehearsal to take part. The group understands that shift patterns and work commitments can make regular attendance difficult, and members are welcome to attend whenever they can.
Whether you are an experienced musician, have recently picked up an instrument again or have a musical talent your colleagues may not even know about, the orchestra would love to hear from you.
