Our exciting project to create the new University Hospital Monklands is a finalist in two categories at a prestigious UK-wide awards ceremony.
The Monklands Replacement Project (MRP) is celebrating after its planning consultants, Keppie Design, made the shortlist for the Planning Awards in London.
Keppie is competing for Planning Permission of the Year (Outside London) and the Award for Infrastructure Planning for its work on the MRP.
The firm is also a finalist for three other awards for a Glasgow residential-led regeneration project.
The Planning Awards celebrate the transformative power of planning, showcasing outstanding work in areas like conservation, urban design, infrastructure, partnerships, regeneration and housing.
Chris Mitchell, Associate Director – Planning at Keppie, has led the planning input for the MRP.
He said: “The new University Hospital Monklands has been a massive part of our collective working lives in recent years, and it has been a genuine pleasure to lead.
“It’s a transformational project with design excellence and climate change at its core, offering the opportunity for long-lasting benefits beyond the physical extent of the site itself.
“We had an excellent working relationship with an engaged local authority throughout the whole planning process, so our thanks go to North Lanarkshire Council. We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed!”
In addition to the high-quality and clinical-led design, the new Monklands will use state-of-the-art technology and digital-based expertise. The project has a net zero carbon ambition embedded into its design, delivery and operation, and is a net zero “pathfinder” project, meaning it will lead the way for a new all-electric standard.
In addition, it offers long-lasting benefits beyond the building itself. These will benefit the local economy, social cohesion and wellbeing, local infrastructure and public health.
The Planning Awards take place on 11 June in London.
