Ministerial visit to neonatal unit and stroke hub

Mar 1, 2024

NHS Lanarkshire’s Chief Executive Professor Jann Gardner and colleagues welcomed Jenni Minto, Minister for Public Health and Women’s Health and MSP Clare Adamson to visit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the digitally-enhanced stroke rehabilitation hub at University Hospital Wishaw this week.

They firstly visited the NICU and saw first-hand the fantastic work being undertaken by our outstanding staff and were able to speak to a family and hear about some of the exceptional quality improvement work. They then joined staff from the unit for a follow up discussion to hear more about the work of the unit and the views of the staff in relation to the Best Start policy proposals.

They were then given a tour of the hub and met with the team and patients.

NHS Lanarkshire has partnered with University of Strathclyde on a groundbreaking trial of a technology-enriched stroke rehabilitation hub.

The new hub allows stroke survivors to access the intensive therapy they need to transform their rehabilitation outcomes.

The trial, the first of its to take place in a hospital in the UK, aims to boost the recovery of stroke survivors through exercise and other therapies.
