SPOTLIGHT

It’s Cervical Cancer Prevention Week!

Jan 22, 2024

From 22 – 28 January 2024 it’s Cervical Cancer Prevention Week and we’d love you to get behind the campaign.

According to Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust: ‘every day in the UK, 2 women lose their lives to cervical cancer and 9 more receive a life-changing diagnosis’. That’s why Public Health is eager to talk about the campaign as its primary message is ‘#WeCan work towards a day where cervical cancer is a thing of the past.’

Celia Watt-Briffa, Consultant in Public Health commented “Cervical screening is available for women aged between 25 to 64 years of age. Yet many women in Lanarkshire still don’t go for the five-minute smear test that can prevent cervical cancer. Even if you feel fine, it’s important not to ignore your invite. Cervical screening can stop cervical cancer before it starts.

Morag Nicholson Public Health Programme Manager for Screening in Lanarkshire added: “We are planning to launch our own campaign around ‘Your First Smear’. The aim is to help overcome fears and encourage women across Lanarkshire to attend their first appointment and each and every one after that.”

There is one easy way to get involved – share the Cervical Cancer Prevention Week campaign with your friends and family on your social channels. To make is easy for you simply copy and paste this message:
