Hairmyres Transfusion Awareness Week

Sep 13, 2024

University Hospital Hairmyres will play host to a dedicated Transfusion Awareness Week in September.

The week, which will be held from 23 September to 27 September, will provide ongoing support to staff involved in blood transfusion at the hospital.

The week will see a suite of focused activities occurring throughout the hospital including a stand providing educational resource packs, face to face educational sessions and daily topics included in the newsletter.

Moira Caldwell, Transfusion Practitioner, said: “Many thanks to all the staff who took the time to complete the survey. The planning team have reviewed all the responses and have tailored the activities for the week towards the aspects of blood transfusion that are most important to the staff. The week will help to improve the blood transfusion knowledge of a wide range of staff.

“As part of the week, blood bank staff are inviting all staff across the hospital to have a tour of the laboratory.

“For those who attend, there will be a raffle where you can win a hamper of goodies.

“We also have SNBTS Donor Engagement team involved and Dr Michael McCusker will present at the Grand Round on the 18th September”
