Scottish Health Awards – Global Citizenship Award

Aug 15, 2022

The Scottish Health Awards are the most prestigious and recognised awards for those working across NHS Scotland and its partners to deliver high quality health and social care services to the people of Scotland.

There are 16 categories in this year’s Scottish Health Awards, including the Global Citizenship Award. This award aims to recognise the dedication and commitment of an individual, group or team who, in addition to delivering their day job in health and/or social care, are also passionate and committed to contributing to global health and social care work in low and middle income countries. This includes all staff working in health and social care including nurses, doctors and dentists, allied health professions, social workers, social care workers, healthcare scientists and estates and maintenance and other support staff.

Global citizenship is about understanding that we, as a community in Scotland, recognise that we are interconnected with the lives of others – that our decisions and behaviours and practice impacts not only ourselves but those around us, those in other parts of our country and those in other parts of the world. It is about recognising that as we strive for human health and wellness we are simultaneously striving for a healthier planet and we proactively work towards this.

Nominations will be accepted for people working in health and social care, including volunteers.

Calvin Brown, director of communications, is one of NHS Lanarkshire’s global citizenship co-leads. He said: “The Scottish Health Awards are a fantastic opportunity to shine a light on our staff and raise awareness of the often life-changing work they are doing to help others around the world.

“Please take the time to nominate your colleagues in NHS Lanarkshire so we can recognise and celebrate their contribution to global citizenship.”

Finalists in all categories will be announced week beginning 4 October and all winners will be announced at the awards ceremony being held at the O2 Academy, Edinburgh on Thursday 3 November.
