Face-to-face stop smoking support comes to Airdrie

Sep 4, 2025

Lanarkshire residents looking for extra support to quit smoking can now stop by the Quit Your Way team’s new one-to-one drop-in sessions, now with an additional venue in Airdrie.

Those who attend can expect advice, information and free Nicotine Replacement Therapy to support them throughout their quit.

Running from Thursday 11 September until Thursday 23 October, the team advisers will be attending the Chapelhall Community Development Group at the Chapehall Library in Airdrie between 9.30am and 12pm.

The team’s mental health adviser will also be attending a one-off drop in at Tesco, Coatbridge on Tuesday 9 September from 2.30pm-4.30pm.

Alongside this, adviser Liz Dickson, will continue to attend the Riverbank Community hub in Coatbridge every Tuesday from 9am-1pm.

The team will answer any questions and provide information for those considering stopping or are ready to stop smoking.

The service supports anyone in Lanarkshire including specialist support for pregnant women and those living mental health issues. There are a variety of support options available, even for those who have tried to quit smoking before with or without the service.

Kelly McAleer, Events Coordinator, Chapelhall Community Development Group, said: “Our primary focus is on improving the immediate well-being and long-term prospects of Chapelhall’s residents, whether it be socially, economically, or environmentally.

“Every Thursday residents can pop along and find out about local support available in the area including our recovery café, speaking to Citizens Advice and the Imagination Station, which is a free class for children from birth to aged 6.

“We’re really pleased to welcome the Quit Your Way team to our Thursday morning groups to support anyone looking to find out more information about quitting smoking.”

Liz Dickson, Adviser – Quit Your Way, NHS Lanarkshire, said: “We know how challenging it can be to stop smoking, but people don’t have to do it alone.

“The drop-in sessions offer a welcoming space on a one-to-one basis where you can get practical advice and free Nicotine Replacement Therapy to support your quit journey – no appointment needed.

“I’m looking forward to meeting the local residents and being able to support them face-to-face to tackle their addiction.”

Michelle Watson, Health Improvement Practitioner, Coatbridge – NHS Lanarkshire, added: “We’re delighted to bring this new offering of the service to the Coatbridge community.

“The Health Improvement team strives to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities by creating healthier opportunities, so we’re thrilled to launch this offering in Coatbridge.

“Whether you’re thinking about quitting or have already started, Quit Your Way is here to support you every step of the way with friendly, confidential help tailored to your needs.”
