Topics including frailty, ambulatory care/GP assessment test of change, the new trauma assessment unit, Minor Injuries Unit activity, and discharge lounge use were on the agenda as the Executive Flow Oversight Board (EFOB) continued to hold meetings around our sites.
The latest, at University Hospital Wishaw (UHW), heard a presentation from Claire Ritchie, UHW Site Director.
Speaking after the meeting, Claire praised her team’s commitment to driving change.
She said: “We’ve had a great focus on our trauma & orthopaedics test of change and on medical ambulatory care and GP assessment test of change, with a site improvement plan working to improve our patients’ experience.
“We’ve seen improvements in discharges, including use of the discharge lounge, as well as reductions in patients’ length of stay. It’s been fantastic to witness the positivity from the teams about doing things differently.”
As always, the attendees were delighted to hear some of the themes identified through the latest positive feedback from patients in various services. Comments about UHW included:
- Emergency Department – Care and compassion, communication with patient and family, level of care, treatment, attitude of staff toward patients;
- Minor Injuries – Attitudes of nurses towards patients, communication with patients, care and compassion, level of care, efficiency;
- Trauma Assessment Unit – Level of care, attitude of staff towards patients and their visitors, communication with patients, going above and beyond for patients, efficiency of treatment and discharge.
The key objective of EFOB is to oversee and connect the various strands of priority work across the health board and the partnerships, to bring performance improvement, enhanced patient safety and even greater staff wellbeing.
EFOB’s aim is to oversee and monitor the improvement work within NHS Lanarkshire and the two university health and social care partnerships.
