Digital report on year that launched ambitious five-year plan

Jul 15, 2024

The annual report for NHS Lanarkshire’s digital division has now launched and is available here.

2023/24 was the year when the ambitious five-year strategic plan entitled “Empowering people to enhance care for everyone” was co-created.

The annual report includes a record of work conducted during the period, a statement of effectiveness by Professor Jann Gardner, NHS Lanarkshire Chief Executive and future clinical and digital outlook by Dr Chris Deighan, Medical Director.

Digital: Powered by people

To launch the report Donald Wilson, Director of Digital & Information said: “We are now into the second year of the five-year plan and looking back at 2023/34 I’m delighted with progress and how well our people across digital have pulled together to determine our shared direction and drive delivery of digital transformation.”

Commenting on how digital has needed to change to re-gear and meet new demands, Donald added: “In the annual report, we describe digital as a care-multiplier, and whilst many think of digital as a technical topic, I know it’s our people who make digital happen, through their hard work and dedication.”

A future clinical & digital outlook

In his future outlook Dr Chris Deighan, Medical Director, said: “With so much opportunity for digital technology and innovation in care, it is right to ask how we can deliver in light of the unprecedented challenges we face.

“This begins with each clinician and digital specialist cooperating, to find the best solutions both for patients and our teams. Beyond 2024, we should find new and smarter ways to understand our challenges and collaborate to re-design services and pathways with digital solutions at their core.”

Digital that benefits everyone

Professor Jann Gardner, NHS Lanarkshire chief Executive said: “More than ever, it is clear to me that digital will continue to be a key driver in our recovery, and reform of our healthcare system, for the direct benefit of everyone.”

A wide range of work is underway to support the five-year plan, and progress is shared in the ‘Work Undertaken’ section, which highlights various programmes and their progress. Two success stories for MORSE; the mobile patient information service and HEPMA; our Hospital Prescribing and Medicine Administration system, highlight the collaboration happening between our stakeholders and digital professionals.

Included in the digital annual report is a series of ‘Week in the Life’ Digital role profiles to help NHS Lanarkshire colleagues and the public understand the range of work conducted by the digital team. A feature interview with the Digital Lead for the Monklands Replacement Project highlights the largest and most complex project NHS Lanarkshire has ever undertaken.

In closing, Donald Wilson said: “In 2023/24 and beyond, digital is indispensable and inseparable to delivering day-to-day care. We hope you enjoy reading about our team, the work we deliver and the challenges we face in delivering this vital service for NHS Lanarkshire.”
