NHS Lanarkshire has established a Culture Programme Board to give clear leadership and momentum to creating a positive workplace culture.
The new culture transformation programme is rooted in listening to what our staff are telling us through iMatter, the culture micro survey, culture assessment tool and other feedback.
The programme board builds on the rollout of our NHS Lanarkshire values and behaviours work launched last year.
Calvin Brown, Director of Communications chairs the Culture Programme Board. He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to truly listen to our staff and turn that feedback into a culture that we can all be proud of. As a programme board, we want to focus on practical, visible improvements that make a real difference to people’s everyday experience at work – and to keep staff involved as we shape and deliver that change together.”
At its first meeting this year, members focused on putting strong foundations in place for the programme. That included agreeing governance arrangements, ensuring broad representation from across the organisation and shaping an initial work plan centred on staff involvement and visible change.
Calvin said: “Members are clear that culture change has to feel real in everyday working life. Early discussion highlighted the importance of getting the basics right so staff feel valued and supported, strengthening leadership and management behaviours at all levels, improving how we involve staff and communicate with colleagues who are not easily reached by email, making health and wellbeing a lived priority, and recognising and celebrating the everyday successes that reflect the commitment and talent of our people.”
The next step for the Culture Programme Board is to develop the workstreams and key actions for the coming year. These will include a focus on: leadership and management; values and behaviours; staff involvement, engagement and experience; wellbeing; and communication.
We will continue to share updates through Pulse as this work develops, including how you can get involved and how your feedback is helping to shape our culture.
