Congratulations go to Graeme Hopper, consultant orthopaedic knee surgeon, University Hospital Hairmyres, who has been appointed as honorary professor at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), division of sport, exercise and health in recognition of his outstanding achievements and expertise in knee surgery, particularly in sports knee injuries, both locally and internationally.

The appointment represents a developing strategic partnership between UWS and NHS Lanarkshire. The collaboration will strengthen the ability to research various aspects of trauma and orthopaedic care.

Professor Hopper said: ‘I feel very privileged to be joining UWS as an honorary professor and am excited about our future research collaborations.

‘I am grateful for this opportunity to share my knowledge with the staff and students at UWS and deliver important research, in particular within the field of sports knee injuries.’

Professor Eamonn Brankin, associate medical director, strategic academic liaison, NHS Lanarkshire, said: ‘I’m delighted for Professor Hopper who is our first honorary chair with the University of the West of Scotland and is just reward for the many years of hard work and academic excellence in his field.

‘We hope that this recognition will result in evolving significant collaborations with academic colleagues at the University and put NHS Lanarkshire at the forefront of the latest developments in orthopaedic care and research for the benefit of our patients in Lanarkshire.’
