Challenge Poverty Week 2023

Oct 5, 2023

NHS Lanarkshire is working with partners during this year’s Challenge Poverty Week, to highlight services and resources available to both staff and communities, impacted by poverty.

This year Challenge Poverty Week will take place from Monday the 2 to Sunday 8 October.

Jo Duffy, Senior Health Improvement Officer, NHS Lanarkshire, said: “This year, Challenge Poverty Week feels more important than ever. The annual event, co-ordinated by the Poverty Alliance, is an opportunity for us to unite with organisations across Scotland in calling for a fairer and more equal society and provide a collective voice against poverty.

The pandemic plus the cost of living crisis have presented enormous challenges for staff, patients and our wider communities. For some, they may be experiencing financial difficulties for the first time and for others, it has made existing pressures worse.

We want people to know that help is available and it starts with reaching out to local support services. We have created Cost of Living FAQs to help both managers supporting staff and staff supporting patients, which can be found on FirstPort.

Anyone can get involved in Challenge Poverty Week, the website: https://www.povertyalliance.org/cpw/ contains useful information, resources and links. The hashtags #ChallengePoverty and #CPW23 will be used over the course of the week and social media assets are available to download and also customise.
