Throughout Challenge Poverty Week (07-13 October), we’re working with a range of partners to highlight services and resources available to our staff and communities impacted by poverty.
Jo Duffy, senior Health Improvement officer, said: “Challenge Poverty Week is an important opportunity for us to raise awareness of the challenges, but also the supports available, to our staff and patients who may be experiencing financial worries.
“The week, co-ordinated by the Poverty Alliance, is a chance for us to unite with organisations across Scotland in calling for a fairer and more equal society and provide a collective voice against poverty.
“As an Anchor Organisation, NHS Lanarkshire is in a strong position to support this work locally.
“We know that the impacts of the last few years have led to existing financial difficulties worsening for many people, and for others who were previously just ‘getting by’ they may be experiencing financial pressures for the first time.
“We want people to know that help is available and it starts with reaching out to local support services. Visit our public facing NHS Lanarkshire Cost of living Page for information on how to contact our local authority welfare rights partners and access ‘Worrying About Money?’ leaflets.”
There will also be three short 30 minute information sessions on the benefits of the NHS Credit Union, which all staff are welcome to access, links shared via the Staff Brief.
The Challenge Poverty Week website: https://www.povertyalliance.org/cpw/ contains useful information, resources and links. The hashtags #ChallengePoverty and #CPW24 will be used over the course of the week.
