NHS Lanarkshire’s three acute hospitals will illuminate purple on Thursday 26 March to mark Purple Day 2026.
Purple Day is a global campaign with aims to spread awareness about epilepsy, a neurological condition that causes seizures.
The campaign goal is to increase public understanding of epilepsy, reduce stigma and myths and support people and their families living with epilepsy.
Paula Wilson specialised Paediatric Epilepsy Nurse at University Hospital Wishaw said: “Our Hospitals play a vital role in the care and treatment of people living with epilepsy, lighting our hospitals purple shows the surrounding communities a clear although powerful message that we stand with those affected by epilepsy.
“Small acts like this as well as fundraising events locally create visibility and contribute to a larger effort worldwide to reduce stigma and improve support for those living with epilepsy”
Many people still have limited understanding of epilepsy, seeing our hospitals illuminated in purple encourages people to learn more about epilepsy, including how seizures affect individuals and how they can offer support.
Lighting up our acute hospital’s purple sparks conversations about epilepsy and we help to spread awareness, promote understanding and show solidarity to people living with the condition.
