After an illustrious career spanning four decades, Professor Christine Gilmour, Director of Pharmacy at NHS Lanarkshire, has retired.
Professor Gilmour has been a pivotal figure in the field of pharmacy in Scotland, renowned for her dedication, leadership and significant contributions to healthcare.
Professor Gilmour began her career in 1984 at Gartnavel Hospital in Glasgow. She then moved to community pharmacy in England before returning to Scotland, where she joined NHS Lanarkshire in 1994 as the Trust Chief Pharmacist for University Hospital Hairmyres and Stonehouse.
Over the years, she led pharmacy services with distinction, becoming Scotland’s longest-serving Director of Pharmacy.
Dr Chris Deighan, NHS Lanarkshire’s Executive Medical Director, said: “Christine has made an outstanding contribution to pharmacy, both within Lanarkshire and across Scotland. I would like to personally thank Christine for the support she gave me over the last 18 months since coming to Lanarkshire. It has been very much appreciated. We will miss her greatly.”
Throughout her tenure, Professor Gilmour has been recognised for her exceptional contributions to the profession. She is a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), an honour bestowed upon members who have demonstrated outstanding distinction in their pharmacy careers. This accolade reflects her commitment to advancing the field and improving patient care.
Her retirement marks the end of a notable era for NHS Lanarkshire, but her legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire future generations of pharmacists.
