New NHS Lanarkshire Chief Executive Louise Long continued her round of site visits, seeing services at University Hospital Wishaw and University Hospital Hairmyres.

At Wishaw, Angela Dixon, Director of Hospital Services, Martin Downey, Chief of Medical Services, Claire Steven, Chief of Nursing Services and Stephan Dalchow, Deputy Chief of Medical Services, met Louise in the boardroom and gave an introductory presentation before going on a tour of the hospital.

Louise visited the Frailty Unit, Surgical Ambulatory Care Unit, Day Surgery Unit, the Neonatal Unit as well as the Minor Injury Unit and the Emergency Department.

At Hairmyres, Louise was welcomed by Margaret Meek, Director of Hospital Services, Claire McDougall, Chief of Medical Services, and Lise Axford, Chief of Nursing Services.

She then met staff in the Emergency Department, the Emergency Assessment Unit and the Frailty Unit.

The visit was rounded off by a discussion with the leadership triumvirate, senior clinicians and service managers.

Reflecting on her first fortnight, Louise said: “I’ve been incredibly impressed by the commitment, professionalism and compassion of staff across NHS Lanarkshire.

“There is real innovation here. Teams are embracing new ways of working to improve patient care and ensure services are sustainable for the future.

“I’m excited to be part of this journey. As we look ahead, I’m focused on building on this strong foundation and working alongside our staff, partners and communities to deliver high-quality care that makes a lasting difference.”

Louise’s next visits will be to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and the Houldsworth Health Centre in Wishaw.
