Cabinet Secretary Neil Gray commends innovative approach

Oct 31, 2024

Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Neil Gray has commended the innovative approaches being taken to improving health services in Lanarkshire.

In a meeting hosted by our Chair, Martin Hill and Chief Executive, Professor Jann Gardner, Mr Gray heard how Team Lanarkshire are building on robust, evidence-based system that ensures patients are cared for safely, efficiently, and with absolute confidence.

In a video message Mr Gray said: “What’s been really helpful to see is the fact NHS Lanarkshire are embracing technology, new digital platforms and innovation to improve the patient journey and make sure those that need direct person centred care can receive it.”

Indeed, a focal point of the meeting, held in University Hospital Monklands, was hearing an update on the work of our Interface Directorate.

Led by Trudi Marshall, the Directorate is driving and influencing improvements, collaboration, cohesion and communication the ‘interface’ – across all components of the healthcare system, from primary, hospital and community care.

One aspect of this work, Flow Navigation Centre Plus, was brought into sharp focus with the screening a short film, which you can watch here: FNC+Plus – Marlyn’s story v2 on Vimeo

Marlyn’s story gives a glimpse of one approach – combining technology, cohesion and compassion – which is about to be scaled up in Lanarkshire soon.

Professor Jann Gardner, Chief Executive of NHS Lanarkshire, said: “We were delighted to welcome the Cabinet Secretary and demonstrate how our exceptional staff continue to deliver exceptional, compassionate care.

“This is increasingly being supported as we diligently harness cutting-edge initiatives, innovation and technology that not only meet the needs of today but also prepare our entire health and care system for tomorrow’s challenges.”

The meeting was also attended by representatives across the system including respective Chief Officers of North and South Lanarkshire University Health and Social Care Partnership, Claire Rae and Professor Soumen Sengupta, as well as NHS Lanarkshire leaders and clinical staff from across Team Lanarkshire.
